WordPress Wednesday Tip 30: How to Customize Confirmations in Gravity Forms

As one of your biggest marketing investments, your website needs to bring you a steady stream of leads. And forms are one of the easiest ways to achieve this. You probably have at least one on your site already. (If not, check out WordPress Wednesday Tip 28 and learn how to create a form using Gravity Forms).
But are you using your form to it’s fullest potential? What happens after a visitor fills it out? Do they see a default confirmation message? Something like, ‘Thank you for your submission’?
If so, it’s time to customize your message. Why is this important? Because your site’s confirmation message is a golden opportunity to provide a personalized experience that leaves a lasting impression on potential customers.

WordPress Wednesday Tip 30: How to Customize Confirmations in Gravity Forms
1. Hover over ‘Forms’ and click on ‘Forms’.
2. Find the form whose confirmation needs customized. Hover over ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Confirmations’.
3. You can choose to edit the ‘Default Confirmation’ or add an entirely new confirmation. You can see the default confirmation message to the right of the page, under the ‘Content’ column.
How To Edit the Default Confirmation in Gravity Forms
There are 3 confirmation types to choose from in Gravity Forms. ‘Text’ is a written message. ‘Page’ sends the person to a page on your website after they click submit. ‘Redirect’ sends the person to an entirely different website after they click submit. This WordPress Wednesday will show you how to use all 3 types of confirmations.
1. Hover over ‘Default Confirmation’ and click ‘Edit’.
To Tailor the Message a Person Receives After Submitting a Form:
1. Check ‘Text’ in the Confirmation Type.
2. Type the message’s content into the text editor.
3. Click the blue ‘Save Confirmation’ button.
To Send a Person to a Page on Your Website After Submitting a Form:
1. Check ‘Page’ in the Confirmation Type.
2. Select the page you want to send the person to from the drop down.
3. Click the blue ‘Save Confirmation’ button.
To Redirect a Person to a Different Website:
1. Check ‘Redirect’ in the Confirmation Type.
2. Type the web address of the page you want to send the person to.
3. Click the blue ‘Save Confirmation’ button.
How To Create a New Confirmation in Gravity Forms
1. Click on the ‘Add New’ button next to ‘Confirmations’.
2. Give your confirmation a name. Choose one of the 3 Confirmation Types – Text, Page, or Redirect. Complete the appropriate fields based on the instructions above.
Applying Conditional Logic to Confirmations in Gravity Forms
When you add an entirely new confirmation, you have the option to apply conditional logic. This allows you to create rules for the confirmation depending upon information the person included on the form.
1. To apply conditional logic, choose whether the rule(s) will apply to ‘all’ or ‘any’ of the conditions you are about to create.
2. Select one of the form fields from the first dropdown menu.
3. Select the type of logic to apply.
4. Enter or select a value. This field type will change depending on the form’s Field Type.
5. Add more conditions by clicking on the plus sign icon.
Finishing Up Confirmations in Gravity Forms
1. When finished creating the confirmation, click the blue ‘Save Confirmation’ button.
2. Click on ‘Back to Confirmations’ on the top of the screen.
3. You will be taken back to the form’s main confirmation page. It will now list the confirmation you just created. Toggle the ‘On/Off’ switch to Green to activate the confirmation.
