Reading Time: 4 minutes
Social media marketing falling flat? As a results-oriented entrepreneur, it’s really frustrating when your marketing efforts aren’t producing the results you were expecting. But you can start turning things around today with these 5 Tips to Improve Your Social Media Presence.
Social Media Marketing Falling Flat? 5 Ways You Can Fix It
1. Get Clear About Why You’re Using Social Media
It’s not enough to have profiles because someone told you that you should. Or because your competitor has them. You need to know why your business has a social media presence. What do you want to achieve with each of your social accounts?
Is it to increase your website traffic? Grow brand awareness? Generate new leads? Whatever the reasons, make sure you and your team are clear about what they are.
2. Optimize Your Social Media Profiles
When was the last time you took a look at your company info on your profiles? If it’s been a while, or your info has changed, it’s time to freshen up your content.
Be sure to complete all of the sections available in the account. Add crisp header and profile images that showcase your brand’s personality, as well as its products or services. Write captivating, keyword rich company descriptions. Lastly, make sure to maintain consistency across platforms so your customers won’t get confused.
3. Post Consistently & Often Enough {Without Becoming Annoying}
At it’s core, social media is about building relationships with your audience. And just like in-person relationships, online relationships take time to develop and nurture. Posting consistently is one of the best ways to let your followers get to know – and trust – you and your brand.
Just be mindful of how frequently you’re posting. You don’t want to post so infrequently that your fans forget about your amazing company. But you also don’t want to take over their feed to the point that they hide your posts or unfollow you.
How Often to Post to Social Media
• Facebook: No more than 2x/day
• Twitter: At least 3x/day
• Instagram: At least 1x/day
• Pinterest: At least 5x/day
• LinkedIn: 1x/day
4. Incorporate Images into Your Updates
You know how they say that a picture is worth a thousand words? Nowhere is it more true than on social media! Adding images to your posts and tweets will significantly improve their overall performance.
In fact, according to research from Twitter, tweets that include a picture see an average of 35% more retweets than those that don’t! And Hubspot reports that Facebook updates that include an image receive an average of 2.3x more engagement than those that don’t.
5. Engage with Your Current {& Future} Audience
Take a minute and think of your favorite personal relationships. Why do you stay in them? What makes them so awesome? Chances are, it’s because each of you value the other. There’s an even exchange of ideas and a mutual interest in each other. If your friend only wanted to talk and never listen, you wouldn’t stick around, would you? Probably not.
The same holds true for social media marketing.
In order to see results from your efforts, you have to be as interested in your audience as they are (or you want them to be) in you. And maybe even a little more. (Remember when we said that social media is all about relationships?)
How To Show Interest In Others with Your Posts
• Invite comments and feedback from your followers.
• Always respond to comments that a fan leaves.
• Add comments to other’s posts and share their content when it’s relevant and interesting to your audience.
In Sum
